About BiA
Who are the Brothers in Arms?
Brothers in Arms started as a dream of a soldier sitting in a bunker in Iraq in 2005. He had been servicing the computers of his comrades for several months, and he loved the work. Slowly an idea began to emerge for a custom computer company that offered not only the best computers at the best value but also personalized customer and educational services for those who need it. He began talking with some of his fellow soldiers who shared his philosophy, thus creating the Brothers in Arms. They all returned home safely in December of 2005 and have been working since then to build this company.
My name is Alan Snyder, and I am that soldier. The idea didn't just come out of the blue. I grew up in a time when computers were growing up themselves. My first computer was a Commodore 64 ™. My next computer was a Commodore Amiga™. I then joined the Army and purchased an IBM 8086 compatible and have pretty much kept pace with all the changes. I have built my own computer several times and purchased a few. After my Active Duty service was complete I worked for a national cable internet provider as an Installer/ Troubleshooter. In this capacity I had a good many classes on computers, at one time earning a Microsoft Certification. I have continued studies in computers, and this fall I plan on completing my A+ Certification Test. In 2003, I joined the Iowa National Guard full time after being in the unit for 7 years as a weekend soldier. Since then I've spent a year in Iraq. While deployed in Iraq I helped several military units and civilian contract groups set up their civilian network systems so they could communicate with their families. I also was responsible for managing our private internet system and keeping the computers of my unit free from viruses and other mal-ware. It was this experience that made me realize that I had been given a gift and passion that could help others. Read on to find out more about the other Brothers in Arms.
Tod Holder has been around computers ever since he was a boy. His first computer was an Intel 80386. When it had problems the woman who had introduced him to computers wouldn't fix it, but she told him how to do it and made him fix it himself. Five years later he built his first computer, and he has built many more since then. He has been in the National Guard for almost nine years. While in Iraq, he assisted in helping keep some of the computers up and going. He has always kept up on technology as computers have been one of his hobbies. He had friends and relatives telling him he should start a computer company, and the most influential was his father. He never thought he'd see that dream come true until Alan shared his own dream with him.
